Where the Children Are the Stars

School Governors

ABOUT OUR GOVERNORS

The governors contribute to, and monitor, the impact of school improvement priorities and take a strategic view of all aspects of the school’s work.  They work together as a Full Governing Body, with specific areas of school priorities delegated to committees (Resources Committee and School Improvement & Development Committee).

Our Governing Body is made up of 10 members, and includes Parent Governors, Staff Governor, Co-Opted Governors and Local Authority Governor.

Key areas monitored and evaluated by the governors 2014-15

The governors contribute to, and monitor, the impact of school improvement priorities and take a strategic view of all aspects of the school’s work.

The information below outlines our areas of focus last year, and our objectives for this school year.

For each of the school improvement areas, a designated governor works alongside the leader who has responsibility for the improvement.  Together they will monitor and evaluate the impact of actions taken, and identify next steps.  They will use this information to ensure all our children make the best progress and achieve as highly as possible, and that resources are planned effectively. They also use this to support the school’s self- evaluation judgements, benchmarked against the Ofsted inspection evaluation schedule.

Together, the governors, staff and parents work effectively as a team, to ensure that the children are the ‘stars’ at Aldercar.

Strategic Objectives 2014-2015

  • Embed and improve the school’s marking policy in writing and mathematics, ensuring it is consistently implemented by all staff, so that pupils are clear about how to improve, and ensure that they always follow this advice in their subsequent work.
  • Increase the percentage of outstanding teaching across the school by ensuring that all pupils are challenged in all parts of lessons
  • Pupils display a love of learning in all lessons and with all staff, and display impeccable behaviour at all times which impacts positively on achievement- to maintain outstanding self-evaluation judgement
  • Implement the new National Curriculum to strengthen the current broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of the existing cohort of children and assessing without levels.

The governors key monitoring and evaluation findings are reported back to the whole governing body.  These findings influence the decisions made, to ensure that the children continue to access outstanding provision, teaching, learning and are kept safe and well looked after.

Governors seek the views of parents, carers and children at three points during the year, based on the parent view questions. They meet with senior and middle leaders to monitor, evaluate and discuss the impact of school improvement actions on the achievement and progress of all pupils.

The governing body also evaluates its structure annually, to make sure that the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise are represented by its members, and any gaps identified.  This annual monitoring and evaluation helps to make sure the governing body operates as effectively as possible.

Strategic Objectives 2015-16

Outcomes for pupils

  • Attainment remains above the national outcomes and progress is at least good from each child’s baseline.
  • Increase the percentage of outstanding teaching across the school. Implementing a maths mastery approach in KS1 and embedding the visual maths marking scheme.
  • Whole school ethos and curriculum to continue build upon British values promoting best practice and promoting equality and diversity.
  • Plan and implement provision for 2 year olds to begin in January 2017

The Governing Body are very proud of the children’s achievements and progress. They value the partnership with staff, parents and the wider community to ensure that Aldercar Infant and Nursery School continues to provide outstanding provision for all the children in our school.
